Welcome, come on in
Hi! My name is Jaharn Quinn, and I am a designer and author, widely recognised as one of Australia’s leading voices in upcycling and sustainable design. I have a deep appreciation for timeless, elevated interiors, and my work centres on reimagining what already exists – proving that thoughtful design doesn’t have to come at the cost of the environment.
I have spent over 25 years thrifting, making, and refining my approach to DIY and upcycling, building a practice grounded in creativity, resourcefulness, and intention. I love to reimagine, reinvent and redesign, so get ready to roll up your sleeves because we’re about to rummage through piles of dusty furniture to find the diamond in the rough. Here you will find lots of tips and tricks for successful thrifting trips, as well as hundreds of project tutorials, from beginner to intermediate and advanced. You can choose whatever project interests you and follow the tutorials step-by-step, or change things, such as paint colours, fixtures and finishes, to suit your style. As I shares ideas, techniques, and inspiration, my goal is to help you feel more confident creating and transforming your own spacess that champions DIY, reusing and repurposing. Whether it's reimagining a hotel room, redesigning a kerbside armchair, or transforming a secondhand room divider using paint, you’ll walk away feeling inspired and empowered to live a more creative life.
If you’re looking to dip your toe into the world or DIY or you want to level up your skills, my Power Tool Course has been empowering a new generation of makers with the skills to bring their ideas to life for the least few years. And in 2025, I published Dream Home DIY – a go-to guide for thrifting and upcycling, featuring 35 creative projects designed to inspire readers to see the potential in every room in their home.

Where does the name “Smor” come from?
I went to Copenhagen in 2018 and fell in love with the Danish word for butter, smør. With family roots in Denmark, I wanted to bring this slow, cosy feeling of smør back home through thrifting, making and upcycling. And Smor Home was born in 2021.
